7 practical decision making tips
Decision making is a skill. You have to keep your mind clutter free. You can't take decision if your thoughts are foggy. Every decision brings a outcome. If the decision is taken in stress, it will bring a consequence and you may have to pay the price for that. Of course, there are some people who face decision paralysis and cannot take decision but most of the people are capable of taking decision. They just need right guidance. Let's look into it with a different perspective.
Below are 7 strategies which will help you in decision making:
1. Automate your daily tasks and save your brain juice.
We have limited energy. So we can only take limited decisions. Don't waste your time and brain juice in taking decisions which can be automated. Decisions like what to wear, what to eat in breakfast etc don't need conscious thought process every time.
2. Create a threshold to bear something in your life.
If you have to take a decision related to money, create a threshold of spending money depending on your capability that you can bear and don't have to think much. Suppose you have capability of spending 200 rupees on something. Now you came across something that you want to buy and is less than 200 rupees, then just buy it (of course that should adding some value in your life). Don't involve your decision making skill here and save your brain juice. Same goes with your time, patience and other aspects of your life.
3. Collect all the necessary information.
In general, the difficulty in decision making comes due to lack to clarity. Gather all the information needed to support your decision making.
4. Never seek confirmation bias.
If you are asking something which can help in taking decision which can be related to some information, then it is fine. Seek the information which shortfalls you from taking decision. But most of the people decide something in their mind and just asking people about it so that they can seek confirmation from them on their decision.
5. Follow you gut feeling.
Many times even after following above points, we are not able to take decision because our subconscious mind knows that there is something wrong here. This is told by your gut feeling. Try to understand this and follow your gut feeling.
6. Buy some time.
If you are still confused about taking decision on anything in your life, delay your decision. Even when people are pressuring you to take decision, request them some time to think and avoid taking decision in that stressful moment.
7. Say NO.
Even after doing all this, you are not able to take decision, that means it is not for you. Clearly say no in that decision.
